“(They were) Krauñca, Vāmana, and the third, Āndhakāraka; also Divāvṛti, Mana, Puṇḍarīka, and Dundubhi.”

The verse functions as a catalogue of specific beings, highlighting the Purana’s theme that countless individual souls (paśu) exist under varying conditions of obscuration (pāśa), while liberation ultimately depends on the grace and lordship of Śiva (Pati).
By listing distinct named beings within Śiva’s cosmic narrative, the text reinforces Saguna Śiva as the personal Lord who governs and uplifts all categories of beings; such passages support devotional remembrance (smaraṇa) and reverent recitation in Linga-centered worship.
A practical takeaway is nāma-smaraṇa and Purāṇic recitation as bhakti: read the passage with devotion, then conclude with the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to orient the mind toward Śiva as the remover of darkness (avidyā).
