Svagati-varṇana
Description of the Supreme State / One’s True Attainment
अमृतात्मकं तु तत्क्षीरं यावत्संयाम्यते ततः । इमं वैवस्वतं कल्पं पश्यसे बन्धुभिस्सह
amṛtātmakaṃ tu tatkṣīraṃ yāvatsaṃyāmyate tataḥ | imaṃ vaivasvataṃ kalpaṃ paśyase bandhubhissaha
That milk, whose very nature is amṛta, is restrained only up to that point. Thereafter, together with your kinsmen, you shall behold this Vaivasvata Kalpa, the present aeon.
Lord Shiva (instructing within the Umāsaṃhitā narrative)
Tattva Level: pati
Cosmic Event: Vaivasvata-kalpa (present manvantara/aeon) referenced as the temporal frame of experience
The verse uses “amṛta-natured milk” as a symbol of life-sustaining, grace-filled nourishment that is nevertheless governed by cosmic order; Shiva, as Pati (the Lord), reveals that beings move through time-cycles (kalpas) under His higher regulation.
In Shaiva understanding, Saguna Shiva guides devotees through worldly cycles and reveals the structure of time itself; such teachings support Linga-worship as devotion to the Lord who both sustains the universe and grants liberation beyond kalpas.
Meditate on Shiva as the regulator of prāṇa and time (kāla-niyantā), pairing steady breath-restraint with japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to cultivate detachment from cyclic time and reliance on His grace.
