Svagati-varṇana
Description of the Supreme State / One’s True Attainment
तस्मिन्दैत्ये विनष्टे तु रुद्रहस्ते गतं तु यत् । तच्छूलमिति तीक्ष्णाग्रं संत्रासजननं महत्
tasmindaitye vinaṣṭe tu rudrahaste gataṃ tu yat | tacchūlamiti tīkṣṇāgraṃ saṃtrāsajananaṃ mahat
When that demon was destroyed, what came into Rudra’s hand became known as the Śūla (trident)—keen-pointed and greatly fear-producing.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Uma-saṃhitā account to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
It presents Rudra’s Śūla as a divine instrument that destroys adharmic forces; spiritually, it signifies Pati (Shiva) removing fear-born bondage by subduing the powers that oppose truth and devotion.
The Śūla is a Saguna emblem of Shiva’s protecting grace—just as the Linga is worshipped as Shiva’s presence, the trident is revered as His active power that safeguards Dharma and restrains egoic, demonic tendencies.
Contemplate Shiva as the protector who cuts down inner ‘daityas’ (anger, pride, delusion), while repeating the Panchākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and offering bilva leaves or vibhūti with the intention of removing fear and obstacles.
