भैरवावतारवर्णनम् (Bhairavāvatāra-varṇanam) — “Description of the Descent/Manifestation of Bhairava”
रोदनाद्रुद्रनामापि योजितोऽसि मया पुरा । मामेव शरणं याहि पुत्र रक्षाङ्करोमि ते
rodanādrudranāmāpi yojito'si mayā purā | māmeva śaraṇaṃ yāhi putra rakṣāṅkaromi te
“Because of your crying, I formerly bestowed upon you the very name ‘Rudra’. Now, my son, come to Me alone for refuge; I shall surely grant you protection.”

The verse highlights śaraṇāgati (complete refuge): divine protection arises when the soul turns wholly toward the higher Lord/principle, and even a name like “Rudra” signifies a sacred destiny shaped by divine grace.
It supports Saguna devotion: the devotee approaches the Lord as a compassionate protector. In Linga-worship too, one seeks Shiva as the accessible refuge who removes fear and grants rakṣā (protection) and steadiness on the path.
Practice śaraṇāgati with japa—mentally surrender while repeating a Shiva-name (especially the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), praying for rakṣā and inner purification.
