Nandikeśvara: Incarnation, Consecration, and Marriage—Description
निरीक्ष्य गणपांश्चैव देवीं हिमवतः सुताम् । उवाच मां कृपादृष्ट्या समीक्ष्य जगताम्पतिः
nirīkṣya gaṇapāṃścaiva devīṃ himavataḥ sutām | uvāca māṃ kṛpādṛṣṭyā samīkṣya jagatāmpatiḥ
After looking upon the hosts of Gaṇas and also upon the Goddess, Himavat’s daughter, the Lord of the worlds gazed at me with a compassionate glance and spoke.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
This verse highlights Śiva as Jagatpati whose compassionate gaze (kṛpā-dṛṣṭi) initiates guidance; in Shaiva Siddhanta, liberation arises through the Lord’s grace that loosens pāśa (bondage) and turns the soul toward right knowledge and devotion.
The scene presents Saguna Śiva—personally present, surrounded by Gaṇas and alongside Pārvatī—showing that devotion may begin with the Lord’s accessible, gracious form; such devotion matures into deeper reverence for Śiva’s all-pervading reality, often worshiped as the Liṅga.
The practical takeaway is to seek Śiva’s grace through bhakti: daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with a prayer for kṛpā, and simple Śiva-upāsanā such as offering water to the Liṅga with a humble, receptive mind.
