Nandikeśvara: Incarnation, Consecration, and Marriage—Description
वत्स नन्दिन्महाप्राज्ञ मृत्योर्भीतिः कुतस्तव । मयैव प्रेषितौ विप्रौ मत्समस्त्वं न संशयः
vatsa nandinmahāprājña mṛtyorbhītiḥ kutastava | mayaiva preṣitau viprau matsamastvaṃ na saṃśayaḥ
“Dear child Nandi, O greatly wise one—why should you fear death at all? Those two brāhmaṇas were sent by Me alone. You are equal to Me; of this there is no doubt.”
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: liberating
Shiva removes the devotee’s fear of death by affirming His direct grace and protection; in Shaiva Siddhanta, fear dissolves when the soul takes refuge in Pati (Shiva), the Lord who transcends death and grants liberation.
The verse emphasizes Saguna Shiva’s personal care for His bhakta: the Lord who is worshipped as the Linga is also the compassionate protector who guides events and reassures the devotee, making Linga-worship a living relationship of surrender and grace.
Practice fearlessness through japa of the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with devotion, coupled with simple acts of Shaiva discipline such as applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and maintaining remembrance of Shiva as the conqueror of death.
