tacchrutvā vacanaṃ devyāḥ prāvocatsāñjalistadā | bhaktirbhavatu me devi pādayoste sadā varā
Hearing the Goddess’s words, he spoke with folded hands: “O Devī, may there always be for me the most excellent devotion at your feet.”
A devotee/supplicant addressing the Goddess (Devi/Parvati) within Suta's narration
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Mantra: भक्तिर्भवतु मे देवि पादयोस्ते सदा वरा
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
Offering: dipa
The verse models śaraṇāgati (humble surrender): the highest request is not worldly gain but steady bhakti, which in Shaiva Siddhanta matures the soul (paśu) toward Shiva’s grace through the Divine Mother’s compassion.
Devotion to the Goddess’ feet supports saguna-upāsanā: reverent, personal worship that purifies the heart. In Shaiva tradition, honoring Devi aligns the devotee with Shiva’s śakti, deepening Linga worship through humility and loving service.
The posture “with folded hands” implies daily namaskāra and prayerful repetition of a Shaiva mantra (such as the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with the inner resolve: “May unwavering devotion arise in me.”
