Nandikeśvara: Incarnation, Consecration, and Marriage—Description
स्तुतिमत्सु ततस्तेषु विष्णुः सर्वजगत्पतिः । शिरस्यञ्जलिमाधाय तुष्टाव च समाहितः
stutimatsu tatasteṣu viṣṇuḥ sarvajagatpatiḥ | śirasyañjalimādhāya tuṣṭāva ca samāhitaḥ
Then, as those hymns of praise were being offered, Viṣṇu—the Lord of the entire universe—placing his joined palms upon his head, worshipfully praised Śiva with a collected and steady mind.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; highlights Viṣṇu’s exemplary bhakti posture (añjali on the head) during Śiva-stuti—an inter-deity devotion paradigm.
Significance: Teaches śaraṇāgati-bhāva: even ‘sarvajagatpati’ (as described) adopts humility before Śiva; inspires devotees to perform stuti with mental collectedness (samāhita).
Type: stotra
It highlights bhakti marked by humility and inner concentration: even Viṣṇu approaches Śiva with reverence, showing that true worship is añjali (submission) joined with samādhāna (collected mind), which aligns with Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis on grace received through devoted surrender.
The gesture of placing añjali on the head expresses complete offering of oneself to the worshipful Lord—typical of Saguna Shiva devotion. In Linga-worship, the same attitude is enacted through namaskāra, stuti, and focused contemplation of Śiva as Pati (the Supreme Lord) who grants auspiciousness and liberation.
Perform stuti and namaskāra with a steady, undistracted mind (samāhita). As a practical takeaway, chant a Śiva-stotra or the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while maintaining añjali and mental one-pointedness during pūjā.
