Śiva–Arjuna Yuddha and the Subjugation of Pride (Śiva-parīkṣā)
सोसि योसि नमस्तेऽस्तु कृपां कर्तुमिहार्हसि । दासोहं ते महेशान स्वामी त्वं मे महेश्वर
sosi yosi namaste'stu kṛpāṃ kartumihārhasi | dāsohaṃ te maheśāna svāmī tvaṃ me maheśvara
You are That, and You are this as well—salutations to You. Be gracious here and now. O Maheśāna, I am Your servant; O Maheśvara, You alone are my Lord and Master.
A devotee/supplicant addressing Lord Shiva (as narrated within the Shatarudrasaṃhitā dialogue, ultimately conveyed by Suta to the sages)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Mantra: सोसि योसि नमस्तेऽस्तु कृपां कर्तुमिहार्हसि । दासोहं ते महेशान स्वामी त्वं मे महेश्वर
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It expresses śaraṇāgati (total surrender): the devotee confesses servanthood (dāsa-bhāva) and seeks Shiva’s kṛpā, affirming Shiva as both transcendent and present in all that exists—key to receiving anugraha (liberating grace) in Shaiva Siddhanta.
By addressing Shiva as Maheśāna/Maheśvara and offering namas, the verse supports Saguna worship—approaching the Supreme through a personal Lord (often via the Śiva-liṅga) while also acknowledging His all-pervasive reality (“You are That and this”).
A simple daily practice is implied: bowing with “namaḥ” and repeating Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with dāsa-bhāva, mentally requesting kṛpā; it can be paired with liṅga-abhisheka or Tripuṇḍra/bhasma and rudrākṣa as supportive Shaiva disciplines.
