Arjuna–Gaṇa Saṃvāda: Bāṇādhikāra, Tāpasa-veṣa, and the Ethics of Tapas (अर्जुन-गणसंवादः)
नन्दीश्वर उवाच । इत्येवन्तद्वचः श्रुत्वा विहस्य स गणेश्वरः । अर्जुनं ऋषिरूपं तं भिल्लो वाक्यमुपाददे
nandīśvara uvāca | ityevantadvacaḥ śrutvā vihasya sa gaṇeśvaraḥ | arjunaṃ ṛṣirūpaṃ taṃ bhillo vākyamupādade
Nandīśvara said: Hearing those words, Gaṇeśvara laughed; then, assuming the role of a Bhilla (hunter), he addressed Arjuna, who had taken on the form of a sage.
Nandishvara (Nandi)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Bhairava
It highlights divine līlā and the testing of spiritual identity: outward forms (sage, hunter) can conceal inner intent, reminding seekers that true merit is humility and surrender to Śiva’s will, not mere appearance.
Gaṇeśa’s role as Śiva’s gaṇa shows Saguna Shiva’s compassionate governance through attendants who guide and correct devotees; such narratives reinforce reverence for Śiva’s manifest presence worshipped as the Liṅga and served through right conduct.
Adopt humility before entering worship: begin japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a mind free of pride, and approach Śiva-pūjā as self-offering rather than display of status or learning.
