Protocol of Tapas, Mantra-Japa, and Śiva-Dhyāna
अर्जुन उवाच । कोयं वा कुत आयाति क्रूरकर्मा च दृश्यते । ममानिष्टं ध्रुवं कर्तुं समागच्छत्यसंशयम्
arjuna uvāca | koyaṃ vā kuta āyāti krūrakarmā ca dṛśyate | mamāniṣṭaṃ dhruvaṃ kartuṃ samāgacchatyasaṃśayam
Arjuna said: “Who is this, and from where has he come? He appears bent on cruel deeds. Without doubt, he is approaching with the resolve to do me harm.”

It highlights viveka (discernment): recognizing hostile forces early and standing in dharma, while inwardly seeking the Lord’s protection—an attitude aligned with Shaiva Siddhanta devotion to Pati (Shiva) as the ultimate refuge.
Though the verse is a narrative warning, its devotional implication is to turn to Saguna Shiva (the compassionate Protector) through worship—mentally taking refuge in the Linga as the stable presence of Pati amid worldly threats.
A practical takeaway is protective japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with calm breath, and, if one follows Shiva-Purana practice, wearing Rudraksha and applying Tripundra as reminders of Shiva-refuge and inner steadiness.
