उपमन्युकुमारस्य क्षीरार्थ-प्रार्थना तथा शिवप्रसाद-निबन्धनम् | Upamanyu’s Longing for Milk and the Doctrine of Shiva’s Grace
ततः प्रसन्नचेतस्कः सुप्रणम्य कृताञ्जलिः । ययाचे स वरं प्रीत्या देवदेवान्महे श्वरात्
tataḥ prasannacetaskaḥ supraṇamya kṛtāñjaliḥ | yayāce sa varaṃ prītyā devadevānmahe śvarāt
Then, his heart made serene, he bowed deeply and, with palms joined in reverence, lovingly requested a boon from Maheśvara—the Lord of lords among the gods.
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It highlights the Shaiva ideal that Shiva’s grace is approached through inner serenity, humility, and loving surrender—prītyā (devotion) joined with respectful pranāma.
The verse models Saguna worship: approaching Maheśvara as the personal Lord with folded hands and reverence, which mirrors how devotees stand before the Shiva-linga to pray and seek blessings.
Practice pranāma and añjali before Shiva (or the Shiva-linga), steady the mind into prasannatā (calm clarity), and then offer prayer—ideally accompanied by japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
