Then Upamanyu, engulfed by wave after wave from the ocean of bliss, fell upon the ground like a staff—his mind bowed low in devotion to Lord Śiva.

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Role: liberating
It portrays the hallmark of Shaiva devotion: when Śiva’s grace awakens inner bliss, the ego naturally collapses into complete surrender, expressed outwardly as daṇḍavat prostration.
The verse emphasizes embodied devotion—bowing with the whole being—which is central to Saguna worship of Śiva, especially before the Liṅga, where inner reverence is sealed through physical surrender.
Practice daṇḍavat praṇāma with mindful humility, and pair it with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), letting the mind become ‘bhakti-namra’—softened and bowed in devotion.
