Description of Shiva’s Ardhanārī-nara Manifestation
ईश्वर उवाच । वत्सवत्स महाभाग मम पुत्र पितामह । ज्ञातवानस्मि सर्व तत्तत्त्वतस्ते मनोरथ
īśvara uvāca | vatsavatsa mahābhāga mama putra pitāmaha | jñātavānasmi sarva tattattvataste manoratha
Īśvara said: “O dear child—O most fortunate one—O my son, O Grandfather! I have truly understood, in its very essence, the whole intention of your desire.”
Lord Shiva (Īśvara)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: teaching
The verse highlights Shiva as Īśvara who knows the devotee’s inner intention “tattvataḥ” (in its essence). In Shaiva Siddhanta, this reflects Pati’s omniscience and compassionate governance—Shiva responds not merely to outer words but to the truth of the heart.
Although the verse is conversational, it supports Saguna-upāsanā: the personal Lord listens, understands, and blesses. Linga worship similarly trains the devotee to offer intention (bhāva) with mantra and devotion, trusting that Shiva receives it as the indwelling Īśvara.
The takeaway is sincerity of sankalpa (inner resolve): perform japa of the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with clear intention and humility, offering the mind’s desire into Shiva’s awareness before any external rite.
