Description of Shiva’s Ardhanārī-nara Manifestation
प्रजानामेव वृद्ध्यर्थं तपस्तप्तं त्वयाधुना । तपसा तेन तुष्टोऽस्मि ददामि च तवेप्सितम्
prajānāmeva vṛddhyarthaṃ tapastaptaṃ tvayādhunā | tapasā tena tuṣṭo'smi dadāmi ca tavepsitam
“You have now performed austerity solely for the increase and welfare of beings. By that tapas I am pleased; therefore I grant you what you desire.”
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Role: nurturing
The verse teaches that tapas becomes spiritually potent when it is aligned with dharma and the welfare of all beings; such selfless discipline naturally draws Shiva’s grace, who responds by granting the seeker’s rightful desire.
It reflects Saguna Shiva’s compassionate responsiveness: when devotion and austerity are offered with pure intent, the worshipper experiences Shiva as the personal Lord who bestows boons—often sought through Linga worship, japa, and vrata.
It suggests disciplined tapas such as mantra-japa (especially the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), vrata/fasting, and meditative restraint performed with a selfless intention for loka-kalyāṇa (the good of all).
