Nabhaga-Upākhyāna: The Account of Nabhaga and Shiva-Jñāna
तच्छुत्वा भ्रातृवचनं नभगः परविस्मृतः । तदोपकण्ठमागत्य पितरं समभाषत
tacchutvā bhrātṛvacanaṃ nabhagaḥ paravismṛtaḥ | tadopakaṇṭhamāgatya pitaraṃ samabhāṣata
Hearing those words spoken by his brothers, Nabhāga was utterly astonished. Then, approaching his father at once, he addressed him directly.
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
The verse highlights humility and dharmic inquiry: when confusion arises, one should seek clarification from an elder/teacher, aligning one’s actions with right understanding—an attitude that supports devotion to Pati (Shiva) through disciplined conduct.
Though not explicitly about Linga worship, the narrative mood reflects the Shaiva principle that proper guidance and right intention precede effective worship; approaching a rightful authority mirrors approaching Saguna Shiva (the accessible Lord) with sincerity and questions.
A practical takeaway is śravaṇa and praśna—listening carefully to teachings and asking for clarification; one may pair this with daily japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) before seeking counsel or making major decisions.
