It highlights a moment of extreme ordeal caused by egoic power (Rāvaṇa). In Shaiva understanding, such trials become a crucible where the devotee’s surrender to Pati (Śiva) and inner steadiness are tested, pointing toward purification rather than mere suffering.
Though the verse is narrative, the subtext supports Saguna Śiva-bhakti: in crises created by worldly force, the devotee turns to the Lord’s protecting grace embodied in accessible forms—especially Linga worship—affirming dependence on Śiva as the supreme refuge.
The takeaway is steadiness under adversity: mentally repeat the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and contemplate Śiva as the inner protector (Pati). If following Purāṇic practice, one may also maintain Tripuṇḍra-bhasma and Rudrākṣa as supports for remembrance.
