Having heard that, all the gods, with reverence, made a humble petition and reported everything—both their own distress and the defeat they had suffered.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
It highlights śaraṇāgati (seeking refuge): even the devas, when afflicted and defeated, approach with humility and truthful confession—an essential Shaiva Siddhanta attitude for receiving Śiva’s grace (anugraha).
The verse sets the narrative ground for Saguna worship: the devas submit their plight to the compassionate Lord who responds to sincere petition, often through manifest forms (including Linga-centric worship) to restore dharma.
The takeaway is reverent supplication: approach Śiva with humility, confess one’s distress without concealment, and combine prayer with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as an act of surrender.
