Gṛhapati’s Vow: Turning Grief into Mṛtyuñjaya–Mahākāla Sādhana
kṣaṇaṃ ca girivattasthau citrakūṭatriputrakaḥ | yathā tathā susampanno vismṛtyātmānameva ca
For a moment, Citrakūṭa—connected with Triputraka—stood firm like a mountain. Endowed with every kind of prosperity, he even forgot his very self.

Tattva Level: pashu
It highlights a state where worldly completeness and overwhelming experience can make one forget the ego-self; in Shaiva thought, true steadiness is like a mountain—unshaken—pointing toward inner detachment that prepares the soul (paśu) to turn toward Pati, Shiva.
The verse describes the devotee/narrative figure becoming motionless and absorbed; such absorption mirrors how Linga-worship steadies the mind—Saguna Shiva’s form becomes a support for concentration until self-centeredness dissolves.
It suggests steady, mountain-like dhyāna: sit unmoving, fix awareness on Shiva (often through the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), letting distractions fall away until the sense of “I” quiets.
