Gṛhapati’s Vow: Turning Grief into Mṛtyuñjaya–Mahākāla Sādhana
unmīlya netrakamale supte iva dinakṣaye | apaśyadagre cotthāya śambhumarkaśatādhikam
Opening his lotus-like eyes, as though waking at day’s end, he rose and beheld before him Śambhu—Lord Śiva—whose splendour surpassed that of a hundred suns.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Role: liberating
Offering: dipa
The verse depicts an inner awakening—like waking from sleep—culminating in darśana of Śambhu as overwhelming divine Light, indicating the soul’s turning from limitation toward the supreme Pati (Lord).
It emphasizes Saguna Śiva experienced in a perceivable, radiant form (tejas). In Linga-worship, the same reality is approached through a sacred symbol; in darśana, that worship matures into direct experience of the Lord’s presence.
Meditate on Śiva as jyoti (divine light) while repeating the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” visualizing the mind ‘opening its lotus-eyes’ to behold Śambhu’s splendour.
