FAQs

The verse declares Shiva as the supreme gati—both refuge and final goal—who removes all forms of āpad (outer dangers and inner afflictions). In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, it points to Pati (Shiva) as the sole protector and worthy object of worship for all souls.

Calling Shiva “worthy of reverence by all beings” supports Saguna worship—approaching Shiva through accessible forms such as the Śiva-liṅga, where devotees seek protection and grace. The protective epithet (sarvāpad-vinivāraka) aligns with Liṅga-pūjā as a practical refuge in worldly and spiritual crises.

A direct takeaway is to take refuge in Shiva through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple Liṅga-archana, praying for removal of obstacles and fear. This can be paired with mindful devotion (bhakti) as one’s daily śaraṇāgati (surrender).
