दुन्दुभिनिर्ह्रादनिर्णयः / Dundubhinirhrāda’s Stratagem: Targeting the Brāhmaṇas
इदं चरित्रं परम व्याघ्रेश्वरसमुद्भवम् । शृणुयाच्छ्रावयेद्वापि पठेद्वा पाठयेत्तथा
idaṃ caritraṃ parama vyāghreśvarasamudbhavam | śṛṇuyācchrāvayedvāpi paṭhedvā pāṭhayettathā
This supreme sacred account, arisen from the glory of Vyāghreśvara, should be listened to, caused to be heard (recited to others), read, or likewise caused to be read.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Phala-śruti style injunction: the ‘parama caritra’ connected with Vyāghreśvara is to be heard/recited/read—typical of shrine-glorification sections that establish a text as a vehicle of merit and liberation.
Significance: Śravaṇa–kīrtana–pāṭha are presented as accessible sādhanas: even without elaborate ritual, engagement with the māhātmya yields auspicious results and prepares for mokṣa.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It teaches that śravaṇa (devout listening), pāṭha (scriptural reading), and śrāvaṇa/pāṭhana (helping others hear or study) are themselves acts of bhakti that purify the mind and orient the soul (paśu) toward Shiva (Pati), supporting liberation.
By urging hearing and recitation of Shiva’s līlā and tīrtha-glories (here connected with Vyāghreśvara), it strengthens saguna-upāsanā—devotion to Shiva with form and attributes—through which the devotee’s awareness becomes fit to realize Shiva’s higher, transcendent nature.
Regular śravaṇa and pāṭha of Shiva-kathā—especially on auspicious days like Mahāśivarātri—along with recitation/teaching to others; it can be paired with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” for focused devotion.
