बाणस्य शोकः शिवस्मरणं च — Bāṇa’s Grief and the Turn to Śiva-Remembrance
रुद्रं प्रसादयामास शूलिनं चन्द्र शेखरम् । बाणासुरो महाभक्तो विस्मृतात्मगतिर्नतः
rudraṃ prasādayāmāsa śūlinaṃ candra śekharam | bāṇāsuro mahābhakto vismṛtātmagatirnataḥ
Bāṇāsura—though a great devotee—bowed down, forgetting all concern for his own fate, and sought to win the grace of Rudra, the Trident-bearer, the Lord crowned with the moon.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Rudra
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It highlights śaraṇāgati (surrender): even amid conflict, the devotee turns to Rudra’s grace, letting go of egoic anxiety about personal outcomes and seeking Śiva’s prasāda as the true refuge.
The verse presents Saguna Śiva—Śūlin (trident-bearer) and Candraśekhara (moon-crested)—showing that devotion often begins with personal forms and attributes, through which the devotee seeks the Lord’s mercy that ultimately leads toward liberation.
The core practice implied is namaskāra with bhakti—humble prostration and heartfelt propitiation; it can be paired with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while contemplating Śiva as Śūlin and Candraśekhara, seeking inner purification and divine grace.
