अध्याय ५५ — बाणस्य पुनर्युद्धप्रवृत्तिः
Bāṇa’s Renewed Engagement in Battle
वरमस्य मया दत्तं न मृत्युर्भयमस्ति वै । तन्मे वचस्सदा सत्यं परितुष्टोस्म्यहं तव
varamasya mayā dattaṃ na mṛtyurbhayamasti vai | tanme vacassadā satyaṃ parituṣṭosmyahaṃ tava
“I have indeed granted him this boon—there shall be no fear of death for him. Therefore, let my word ever remain true; I am well pleased with you.”
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
The verse highlights Shiva as Pati (the Lord) whose grace dissolves mṛtyu-bhaya (fear of death). In Shaiva Siddhanta, fearlessness arises when the soul turns from pāśa (bondage) toward Shiva’s protection and truth-bearing will.
The boon and Shiva’s satisfaction emphasize Saguna Shiva’s compassionate responsiveness to devotion. Linga-worship embodies this accessible form of Shiva through which the devotee seeks protection, fearlessness, and steadiness in dharma.
A practical takeaway is to cultivate fearlessness through Shiva-bhakti: daily Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with Linga-abhiṣeka, and remembrance of Shiva at the time of anxiety about death.
