देवस्तुतिः — Hymn of Praise by the Devas
Devastuti
देवस्तुतिरियं पुण्या सर्वपापप्रणाशिनी । सर्वसौख्यप्रदा नित्यं महेशानंददायिनी
devastutiriyaṃ puṇyā sarvapāpapraṇāśinī | sarvasaukhyapradā nityaṃ maheśānaṃdadāyinī
This sacred hymn of praise to the Lord is meritorious and destroys all sins. It bestows every kind of happiness always, and grants the bliss of Maheśa (Śiva).
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the purāṇic account to the sages, describing the fruit of Śiva-stuti in the Yuddhakhaṇḍa context)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Frames Śiva-stuti as universally efficacious: sarva-pāpa-praṇāśa and sarva-saukhya-pradā; supports pilgrimage recitation at any Śiva-kṣetra.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It teaches that sincere praise of Śiva is itself a purifying sādhana: it burns accumulated pāpa and matures the soul toward Śiva’s own ānanda (grace-born bliss), aligning with the Shaiva view that liberation is attained through the Lord’s anugraha awakened by bhakti.
A stuti is a direct form of Saguna-upāsanā—approaching Śiva as Maheśa who hears and responds. Recited before the Liṅga (with water, bilva, and mantra), it becomes an offering of speech (vāk-ārādhana) that invites Śiva’s presence and grace.
Regular recitation of Śiva-stuti as a daily vrata—ideally with the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” Tripuṇḍra (bhasma), and rudrākṣa—treating the hymn as japa-like contemplation that aims at inner purification and Śiva-bhāva.
