देवस्तुतिः — Hymn of Praise by the Devas
Devastuti
इदं परममाख्यानं जलंधरविमर्दनम् । महेशचरितं पुण्यं महाघौघविनाशनम्
idaṃ paramamākhyānaṃ jalaṃdharavimardanam | maheśacaritaṃ puṇyaṃ mahāghaughavināśanam
This is the supreme sacred narrative of the crushing of Jalandhara—an auspicious account of Maheśa’s deeds, holy in itself, and a destroyer of vast torrents of sin.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Significance: Śravaṇa/paṭhana of the Jalandhara-vadha narrative is presented as pāpa-kṣaya and puṇya-prada (sin-destroying, merit-giving).
Type: stotra
It proclaims the Jalandhara episode as a supremely purifying Mahesha-charita: śravaṇa (devotional listening) and remembrance of Shiva’s righteous acts burn accumulated pāpa and turn the mind toward śiva-bhakti and liberation.
By praising Mahesha’s concrete, compassionate action in the world, the verse supports Saguna Shiva devotion—approaching Shiva as the personal Lord whose līlā can be heard, remembered, and worshipped (commonly through Linga-pūjā and kathā-śravaṇa).
Katha-śravaṇa and pāṭha of this Mahesha-charita with devotion; as a Shaiva takeaway, combine it with japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) for inner purification and steadiness in bhakti.
