देवस्तुतिः — Hymn of Praise by the Devas
Devastuti
अथ शंभुर्महेशानः श्रुत्वा देवस्तुतिं शुभाम् । दत्त्वा वरान्वरान्सद्यस्तत्रैवांतर्दधे प्रभुः
atha śaṃbhurmaheśānaḥ śrutvā devastutiṃ śubhām | dattvā varānvarānsadyastatraivāṃtardadhe prabhuḥ
Then Śambhu, the Great Lord Maheśāna, having heard the auspicious hymn of praise sung by the gods, immediately granted them excellent boons; and the Supreme Lord vanished from that very place.
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating the events to the sages, as typical in the Rudra Saṃhitā frame)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
It highlights Śiva’s anugraha (grace): sincere stuti and devotion invite the Lord’s immediate bestowal of boons, after which He withdraws—showing that the Supreme is both compassionately accessible (saguṇa) and ultimately transcendent (beyond grasp).
The devas approach Śiva through praise—an outward, saguṇa mode of devotion. Śiva’s ‘disappearing’ points to His deeper nirguṇa reality, while worship (including Liṅga-upāsanā) is the sacred bridge through which grace is received in the manifest realm.
Perform Śiva-stuti with bhakti—recite the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and conclude with a prayer for anugraha; the verse implies quick fruit when devotion is pure, followed by inner silence (dhyāna) as the Lord becomes ‘unmanifest’ to the senses.
