जलंधरयुद्धे मायाप्रयोगः — Jalandhara’s Māyā in the Battle with Śiva
रथोपरि गतां बद्धां रुदंतीं पार्वतीं शिवः । निशुंभ शुंभदैत्यैश्च बध्यमानां ददर्श सः
rathopari gatāṃ baddhāṃ rudaṃtīṃ pārvatīṃ śivaḥ | niśuṃbha śuṃbhadaityaiśca badhyamānāṃ dadarśa saḥ
Seated upon the chariot, bound and weeping, Pārvatī was seen by Lord Śiva—being seized and restrained by the demons Niśumbha and Śumbha.

The verse highlights that even when the Goddess appears bound in a worldly drama, Śiva—the supreme Pati—directly perceives the suffering of His Śakti and moves to restore dharma. For devotees, it teaches that bondage (pāśa) is seen by Śiva and can be cut through His grace and steadfast bhakti.
This scene emphasizes Saguna Śiva as the compassionate protector who responds within history and narrative. Linga-worship trains the mind to recognize the same Śiva as the inner Lord who witnesses pain and grants release; the devotee approaches the Linga with the trust that the seen, personal Śiva is also the unseen, all-pervading reality.
A practical takeaway is to take refuge in japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—especially in times of fear and constraint, while maintaining purity with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and a prayerful attitude of surrender to Śiva as the remover of bondage.
