“Return to your own abode without fear; let the gods also surely return. Be fearless and free from doubt, deeming the lord of the asuras to be slain.”
Lord Shiva (as the divine commander assuring the devas in the battle context)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Significance: The assurance ‘nirbhaya’ functions as inner-pilgrimage: surrender to Pati dispels saṃdeha (bondage of ignorance) and grants fearlessness.
Role: liberating
The verse emphasizes Shiva as the supreme protector (Pati) who grants abhaya (fearlessness) and removes saṃdeha (doubt). In Shaiva Siddhanta, fear and doubt are pasha-like bonds; Shiva’s assurance symbolizes grace that restores inner steadiness and right understanding.
The command to be fearless and doubt-free reflects the devotee’s refuge in Saguna Shiva—the accessible Lord who acts in the world to uphold dharma. Linga worship similarly centers on approaching Shiva as the immediate source of protection and clarity, not merely as an abstract principle.
The practical takeaway is to cultivate abhaya through Shiva-smaraṇa and japa—especially the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—while applying bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) as a reminder of detachment and trust in Shiva’s guardianship.
