The Provocation of Śiva
मृत्योरुत्क्रांतिदा शक्तिर्मया नीता बलाद्वरा । ददौ मह्यं शुचिर्दिव्ये शुचिशौचे च वाससी
mṛtyorutkrāṃtidā śaktirmayā nītā balādvarā | dadau mahyaṃ śucirdivye śuciśauce ca vāsasī
I forcibly carried away that excellent Śakti who grants release from death; and the Pure One bestowed on me two divine garments—clean and sanctifying.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Yuddhakhaṇḍa account to the sages, quoting the episode’s narration)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Shakti Form: Kālī
Role: liberating
It highlights that transcendence over death is enabled by a higher divine Śakti—purity and sanctification symbolize the soul’s readiness for Shiva’s liberating grace (anugraha) in a Shaiva Siddhanta sense.
In Linga/Saguna Shiva worship, purity (śauca) and sanctifying disciplines are emphasized as outer supports; the verse echoes that liberation is not merely human effort but is completed through divine power aligned with Shiva.
Maintain śauca (cleanliness) and inner purity as preparatory disciplines—paired with steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and a sattvic routine, treating external purity as a support for inward transformation.
