अध्याय १७ — देवपलायनं, विष्णोः प्रतियुद्धं, जलंधरक्रोधः
Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath
O great Daitya, I (Rudra/Śiva) am pleased with you for this battle. Truly you are mighty. In all the three worlds—among beings that move and those that do not—I have not seen a hero equal to you.
Lord Shiva (Rudra)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Role: liberating
The verse highlights Shiva’s anugraha (grace): even amid conflict, the Lord recognizes excellence and sincerity. In a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, Shiva as Pati is free to bestow favor when a being’s resolve, courage, and dharmic steadfastness become evident.
It reflects Saguna Shiva’s personal, responsive nature—He engages with beings, tests them, and grants approval. Such narratives support devotional Linga-worship by presenting Shiva as accessible and capable of direct bestowal of boons and protection.
A practical takeaway is cultivating steadiness and fearlessness through japa of the Panchakshara mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) before duties and challenges, offering the action to Shiva as worship (īśvara-arpaṇa-bhāva).
