अध्याय १७ — देवपलायनं, विष्णोः प्रतियुद्धं, जलंधरक्रोधः
Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath

By those very fierce weapons, many Daityas were slain. In that great battle, the arrogant heroes—their bodies cut apart—went to their death.

It highlights that durmada (arrogant ego) rooted in adharma ends in ruin; in Shaiva Siddhanta, this reflects the working of divine order where Pati (the Lord) upholds dharma and humbles the ego that binds the soul.
The battle imagery points to Saguna Shiva’s protective, dharma-restoring power: devotees remember the Lord as the guardian who removes inner enemies like pride, just as adharma is cut down in the Purana’s war narrative.
A practical takeaway is ego-purification through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with humility, optionally accompanied by Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders to conquer mada (pride).
