अध्याय १७ — देवपलायनं, विष्णोः प्रतियुद्धं, जलंधरक्रोधः
Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath
सोपि विष्णुर्महावीरोऽविगणय्य च तद्व्यथाम । जलंधरं च हृदये जघान दृढमुष्टिना
sopi viṣṇurmahāvīro'vigaṇayya ca tadvyathāma | jalaṃdharaṃ ca hṛdaye jaghāna dṛḍhamuṣṭinā
Then that great hero Viṣṇu too—disregarding the pain he had received—struck Jalandhara in the region of the heart with a firm, clenched fist.

It highlights steadfastness amid suffering: even great cosmic powers endure pain in the field of dharma. From a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, mere heroism cannot finally conquer bondage (pāśa); victory over egoic force ultimately depends on alignment with Pati (Śiva) and right order (dharma).
The Yuddhakhaṇḍa battles underscore that all deities operate within Śiva’s supreme governance. Worship of the Liṅga (Saguna Śiva as the accessible form) or remembrance of Śiva establishes inner surrender, without which martial or worldly strength—symbolized here by the clenched fist—remains incomplete for liberation.
A practical takeaway is cultivating titikṣā (forbearance) with japa: repeat the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as a reminder to endure pain without losing dharma, offering one’s strength back to Śiva.
