अध्याय १७ — देवपलायनं, विष्णोः प्रतियुद्धं, जलंधरक्रोधः
Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath
जलंधरोऽथ दैत्येन्द्रः कोपच्छिन्नाधरो बली । शरेण श्वेन शार्ङ्गाख्यं धनुश्चिच्छेद वैष्णवम्
jalaṃdharo'tha daityendraḥ kopacchinnādharo balī | śareṇa śvena śārṅgākhyaṃ dhanuściccheda vaiṣṇavam
Then Jalandhara, the mighty lord of the Daityas—his lower lip split by rage—shot an arrow and severed the famed Vaiṣṇava bow called Śārṅga.

It portrays how worldly might and even divine weaponry can be checked when ego and fate drive conflict; Shaiva reading emphasizes that true sovereignty belongs to Pati (Śiva), while all powers operate within the cosmic order.
The battle setting underscores the Purāṇic theme that forms and weapons are secondary to the Supreme Lord’s governance; worship of the Liṅga/Saguṇa Śiva trains the devotee to rely on grace and dharma rather than pride in strength.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with humility, along with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) remembrance to reduce anger (kopa) and stabilize the mind.
