राहोः शिरच्छेदन-कारणकथनम् / The Account of Rāhu’s Beheading
Cause and Background

Obeying his command, the gods then made a treaty together with the devas. O dear one, skilled in strategic deception, they did so in order to accomplish their own objective.

The verse highlights how even celestial beings act from self-interest and strategy; in Shaiva Siddhanta this contrasts with surrender to Pati (Shiva), reminding devotees that true refuge is not in shifting alliances but in Shiva’s grace and right action (dharma).
In the battle narratives, worldly power is shown as unstable; devotion to Saguna Shiva through Linga-worship is presented as the steady path, because Shiva alone remains the unchanging Lord beyond the maneuvers of gods and demons.
The practical takeaway is to cultivate sincerity (ārjava) in japa and worship—especially Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—rather than ‘chala’ (inner duplicity); offer actions to Shiva with Tripuṇḍra-bhasma and a focused mind.
