मयस्य शिवस्तुतिः — Maya’s Hymn to Śiva
and Śiva’s Gracious Response
नमः प्रणतसर्वार्तिनाशकाय शिवात्मने । कर्त्रे भर्त्रे च संहर्त्रे त्रिलोकानां नमोनमः
namaḥ praṇatasarvārtināśakāya śivātmane | kartre bhartre ca saṃhartre trilokānāṃ namonamaḥ
Salutations to Śiva, the very Self and inner Reality, who destroys all the afflictions of those who bow in surrender. Salutations again and again to Him who, for the three worlds, is the Creator, the Sustainer, and the Dissolver.
Sūta Gosvāmī (narrating the Shiva Purana account to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga-sthala account; the verse is a doctrinal stuti attributing cosmic functions (creation–maintenance–dissolution) to Śiva for the triloka.
Significance: General: surrender (praṇati) to Śiva as remover of distress is framed as immediately efficacious; remembering Him as kartṛ-bhartṛ-saṃhartṛ cultivates trust in divine governance.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
It declares that surrender (praṇati) to Śiva removes all distress, and affirms Śiva as the supreme Pati—the inner Self—who governs creation, preservation, and dissolution for the three worlds, leading the devotee toward liberation.
Though Śiva is praised as the inner Self, the verse supports Saguna worship (such as the Śiva-liṅga) by emphasizing devotion and repeated salutations; the liṅga becomes the accessible form through which the devotee approaches the transcendent Lord.
Practice namaskāra with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), contemplating Śiva as the remover of suffering and as the cosmic Lord of the three functions; this can be paired with simple liṅga-pūjā using water and bilva leaves.
