मयस्य शिवस्तुतिः — Maya’s Hymn to Śiva
and Śiva’s Gracious Response
स्वंस्वं स्थानं मुदा जग्मुश्शंसंतः शांकरं यशः । स्वंस्वं स्थानमनुप्राप्य निवृतिं परमां ययुः
svaṃsvaṃ sthānaṃ mudā jagmuśśaṃsaṃtaḥ śāṃkaraṃ yaśaḥ | svaṃsvaṃ sthānamanuprāpya nivṛtiṃ paramāṃ yayuḥ
Praising the glory of Śaṅkara, they joyfully departed to their respective abodes. Having reached their own places, through the grace of Śiva they attained the supreme repose—the complete cessation of distress.
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Hearing and praising Śiva’s glory culminates in nivṛtti (cessation of duḥkha) through His grace—anugraha leading the bound souls toward release.
Type: stotra
It presents a Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis on Śiva’s grace: by praising Śaṅkara’s glory and returning to one’s dharmic station, beings gain nivṛtti—inner cessation of suffering and the taste of supreme peace.
The verse highlights stuti (praise) of Śaṅkara’s yaśas as an act of saguna-bhakti—devotion to Śiva with attributes—through which devotees become fit for Śiva’s anugraha (grace), the core fruit also promised by Liṅga-worship.
A practical takeaway is daily Śiva-stuti with japa—especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—as a means to cultivate nivṛtti (calm detachment) and settle the mind in Śiva.
