मयस्य शिवस्तुतिः — Maya’s Hymn to Śiva
and Śiva’s Gracious Response
अथोत्थाय शिवं दृष्ट्वा प्रेम्णा गद्गदसुस्वरः । तुष्टाव भक्तिपूर्णात्मा स दानववरो मयः
athotthāya śivaṃ dṛṣṭvā premṇā gadgadasusvaraḥ | tuṣṭāva bhaktipūrṇātmā sa dānavavaro mayaḥ
Then, rising and beholding Lord Śiva, Maya—the foremost among the Dānavas—his voice choking with love, praised Him, his heart completely filled with devotion.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Depicts bhakti as transformative: even a dānava becomes ‘bhaktipūrṇātmā’; emphasizes that emotional surrender (gadgada voice) is a valid devotional marker leading toward grace.
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
It highlights that true bhakti—so intense it makes the voice tremble—softens the ego and turns the heart toward Śiva, the supreme Pati, who is approached not by status but by sincere devotion.
The verse models Saguna-upāsanā: seeing Śiva and offering praise (stotra). In Shaiva practice, the same devotion is directed to the Śiva-liṅga through darśana, abhiṣeka, and heartfelt hymns, treating the Linga as Śiva’s accessible, grace-giving presence.
Stotra-pāṭha with bhāva (devotional feeling) is central here; practically, one may combine it with Panchākṣarī japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Linga worship, aiming for inner humility and love rather than mere formal recitation.
