मयस्य शिवस्तुतिः — Maya’s Hymn to Śiva
and Śiva’s Gracious Response
सुरर्षिहितकृच्छंभुस्सुरर्षिहितकृत्प्रियः । सुरर्षिहितकृन्नॄणां कदापि कुगतिर्नहि
surarṣihitakṛcchaṃbhussurarṣihitakṛtpriyaḥ | surarṣihitakṛnnṝṇāṃ kadāpi kugatirnahi
Śambhu, who ever acts for the welfare of the gods and the seers, is dear to all who labor for their good. For those devoted to such beneficent service, there is never—at any time—an evil destiny or downfall.

The verse teaches that Śiva (Śambhu) is intrinsically the benefactor of dharma, and those who align with that beneficence—through devotion and welfare-oriented conduct—are protected from spiritual and karmic downfall (kugati).
It supports Saguna Śiva devotion: worship of Śambhu (often through the Liṅga) is not merely ritual, but alignment with Śiva’s grace-filled role as protector of the righteous; such devotion safeguards the devotee’s destiny.
A practical takeaway is to perform Śiva-pūjā and japa with a welfare-oriented intention—e.g., chanting the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while dedicating merit for the good of beings—since such Śiva-aligned conduct is said to avert kugati.
