मयस्य शिवस्तुतिः — Maya’s Hymn to Śiva
and Śiva’s Gracious Response
कदापि नासुरो भावो भवेन्मम महेश्वर । निर्भयः स्यां सदा नाथ मग्नस्त्वद्भजने शुभे
kadāpi nāsuro bhāvo bhavenmama maheśvara | nirbhayaḥ syāṃ sadā nātha magnastvadbhajane śubhe
O Maheśvara, may no demonic disposition ever arise in me. O Lord, may I remain ever fearless, immersed in Your auspicious worship.
A devotee/praying combatant in the Yuddhakhaṇḍa narrative (addressing Lord Shiva as Maheśvara)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Significance: Inner pilgrimage theme: the true ‘kṣetra’ is the purified heart where āsurī-vṛtti is restrained and fearlessness arises through absorption in Śiva-bhajana.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It is a prayer for inner purification: the devotee asks Shiva (Pati) to remove āsuric tendencies (bondage-producing impulses) and to establish fearless, steady devotion that leads toward grace and liberation.
The verse exemplifies Saguna-upāsanā—direct personal surrender to Maheśvara. In Linga worship, the same intention is expressed by offering with humility and seeking transformation of one’s nature through Shiva’s anugraha (grace).
Daily Shiva-bhajana with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple Linga-pūjā (water, bilva leaves) as a discipline to dissolve fear and weaken āsuric impulses.
