नारदस्य विष्णूपदेशवर्णनम् — Nārada and Viṣṇu: Instruction after Delusion
इत्युक्त्वास्त्वसंशयं सर्वं शंकरसद्यशः । शतनामशिवस्तोत्रं सदानन्यमतिर्जप
ityuktvāstvasaṃśayaṃ sarvaṃ śaṃkarasadyaśaḥ | śatanāmaśivastotraṃ sadānanyamatirjapa
Having thus spoken, Śaṅkara—whose glory is immediate and unfailing—removed every doubt. Then, with an undivided mind, he instructed: “Always recite the hymn of Śiva’s hundred names.”
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating the Rudra Saṃhitā account to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Establishes nāma-stotra-japa with ananya-mati as a portable ‘tīrtha’ practice; often paired with temple darśana and pradakṣiṇā in lived pilgrimage.
Mantra: śatanāmaśivastotram (instruction to recite Śiva’s hundred-name hymn)
Type: stotra
It teaches that doubt is dispelled by Śiva’s grace, and that steady liberation-oriented devotion is cultivated through ananya-mati (one-pointed mind) expressed as nāma-stotra-japa—repetition of Śiva’s sacred names.
Reciting Śiva’s hundred names is a saguna upāsanā (devotional practice with attributes) that supports focused worship of the Liṅga, stabilizing the mind in Śiva’s auspicious qualities and drawing the devotee toward His grace.
Daily japa of the Śiva-śatanāma stotra with an undistracted mind—ideally alongside simple Śiva worship such as offering water to the Liṅga and mentally aligning the chant with devotion (bhakti) and surrender.
