This very body—toward which my father himself has conceived desire—what use have I for that body, or for a life sustained by it, among my brothers?
Satī (speaking about Dakṣa’s intention and her own dispassion toward the body)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: teaching
Satī expresses vairāgya (dispassion): when the body is treated as an object of another’s worldly agenda, she rejects identification with it, pointing toward the Shaiva ideal that the Self seeks Śiva—not social approval or bodily continuity.
By devaluing bodily and familial claims, the verse supports exclusive refuge in Lord Śiva (Saguna worship leading to Nirguna realization). It frames devotion as higher than lineage-pride, a recurring theme behind Linga-centered surrender.
The takeaway is inner renunciation paired with Śiva-smaraṇa: steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to loosen body-identification and remain anchored in devotion when facing social or familial pressure.
