संध्याचरित्रवर्णनम् (Sandhyā-caritra-varṇana) — “Account of Sandhyā’s Story”
एतदर्थमहं कृत्वा तपः परम दारुणम् । मर्यादां स्थापयिष्यामि पश्चात्त्यक्षामि जीवितम्
etadarthamahaṃ kṛtvā tapaḥ parama dāruṇam | maryādāṃ sthāpayiṣyāmi paścāttyakṣāmi jīvitam
“For this very purpose I shall perform exceedingly fierce austerities. I will establish the proper boundary of dharma, and thereafter I shall relinquish this life.”
Satī (as narrated within Sūta’s discourse in Rudra Saṃhitā)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: liberating
Satī declares a Shaiva ideal: tapas is not mere self-torture but a dharmic force used to restore maryādā (right order). Her resolve shows how inner spiritual power is directed toward upholding truth and devotion to Śiva.
Though the verse does not name the Liṅga directly, it reflects Saguna-Śiva devotion expressed through vowed discipline (tapas) and steadfast loyalty to Śiva’s dharma. In the Purāṇic narrative, such resolve supports the sanctity of Śiva’s worship against disrespect and disorder.
The verse points to vrata and tapas: steady japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), meditation on Śiva, and disciplined living. Practitioners may pair this with Śaiva observances like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa as supports to vow-based sādhanā.
