Sati declares radical accountability: she will not externalize blame but accepts that inner impurity must be purified through conscious expiation. In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, this points to cleansing mala (impurity) through sincere resolve and self-surrender, not mere social justification.
Though the verse speaks in Vedic-sacrificial language, its inner meaning aligns with Saguna Shiva devotion: offering the ego and limited self into the ‘fire’ of Shiva-consciousness. Linga worship similarly symbolizes dissolving individuality into the presence of Pati (Shiva), the Lord who grants purification and grace.
The takeaway is inner homa: mentally offer one’s pride, anger, and guilt into the purifying fire of mantra and devotion—especially through japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and sincere prāyaścitta like fasting, prayer, and restraint, performed with humility.
