भक्तिभेदाः—ज्ञानप्रधानभक्तेः प्रशंसा
Grades of Devotees and the Praise of Knowledge-Centered Devotion
अथ देवर्षयस्सर्वे शंसंतश्शांकरं यशः । स्वधामानि ययुस्तु ष्टाः परेपि सुखतस्तदा
atha devarṣayassarve śaṃsaṃtaśśāṃkaraṃ yaśaḥ | svadhāmāni yayustu ṣṭāḥ parepi sukhatastadā
Then all the divine sages, praising the glory of Śaṅkara (Lord Śiva), departed—contented—to their own celestial abodes; and even others too went away happily at that time.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
The verse highlights that sincere stuti (praise) of Pati—Śiva as Śaṅkara—naturally culminates in tuṣṭi (inner fulfillment). In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, remembrance and glorification of Śiva loosens pāśa (bondage) and leaves the devotee peaceful and uplifted.
Praising “Śāṃkaraṃ yaśaḥ” aligns with Saguna Śiva-upāsanā—adoration of Śiva’s gracious, beneficent form. Such praise commonly accompanies Liṅga worship through stotra, nama-japa, and ārādhana, after which devotees depart with prasāda-bhāva (contented grace).
A practical takeaway is daily Śiva-stuti and nāma-japa—especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—performed after applying tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and/or wearing rudrākṣa, concluding with a calm dismissal (visarjana) in a joyful, sattvic state.
