Explaining Viṣṇu’s Role at Dakṣa’s Sacrifice
नारद उवाच । शिवं विहाय दक्षस्य सुरैर्यज्ञं हरिर्गतः । हेतुना केन तद् ब्रूहि यत्रावज्ञाऽ भवत्ततः
nārada uvāca | śivaṃ vihāya dakṣasya surairyajñaṃ harirgataḥ | hetunā kena tad brūhi yatrāvajñā' bhavattataḥ
Nārada said: “Setting Śiva aside, Hari (Viṣṇu) went with the gods to Dakṣa’s sacrifice. Tell me—by what reason did he go to that place where contempt for Śiva arose?”

It highlights that avajñā (disrespect) toward Śiva—the supreme Pati and refuge of beings—creates spiritual downfall; even grand rituals become fruitless when devotion and right reverence are absent.
By questioning the neglect of Śiva, the verse implies that ritual power is grounded in honoring Śiva as the manifest (saguṇa) Lord worshipped as the Liṅga; excluding him from worship invites disorder and loss of merit.
Maintain Śiva-smaraṇa and Śiva-pūjā alongside any rite—especially japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and reverent observance (e.g., bhasma/Tripuṇḍra) to avoid the fault of avajñā.
