शिवसतीविवाहोत्तरलीला — Post‑marital Līlā of Śiva and Satī
तस्मिन्प्रविष्टे कामे तु वसंतश्शंकरांतिके । वितस्तार निजं भावं हार्दं विज्ञाय यत्प्रभो
tasminpraviṣṭe kāme tu vasaṃtaśśaṃkarāṃtike | vitastāra nijaṃ bhāvaṃ hārdaṃ vijñāya yatprabho
When Kāma had thus entered upon his mission, Vasantā came near Śaṅkara; and, knowing the Lord’s inward disposition of the heart, he then unfolded his own intent.
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
The verse highlights Śiva as the inner-knower (hṛdaya-jña): even when forces like desire (Kāma) and seasonal impulse (Vasantā) arise, Śaṅkara’s inner state remains sovereign, showing the Shaiva Siddhanta ideal of Pati (the Lord) as master over māyā and the senses.
Approaching “Śaṅkara’s presence” reflects Saguna upāsanā—drawing near to the Lord with reverence—yet the emphasis is on His inner, unshaken consciousness. In Linga worship, the devotee similarly comes close outwardly (arcana) while contemplating Śiva’s inward transcendence of desire.
A practical takeaway is sense-restraint and heart-purification: perform japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and meditating that Śiva knows the heart—so one should offer inner intentions (bhāva) as pure devotion rather than as desire-driven impulses.
