Seeing her daughter’s delicate, tender form, Menakā was shaken to the depths; her two eyes ached at once and swiftly brimmed with tears.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
The verse highlights how intense tapas and single-pointed devotion for Śiva can move even worldly bonds—Menakā’s tears reflect the human cost of austerity, while also underscoring the grandeur of Pārvatī’s unwavering resolve on the path toward union with Pati (Śiva).
Though the verse is narrative, it supports Saguna Śiva-bhakti: Pārvatī’s embodied devotion and sacrifice point toward worship where the Lord is approached with feeling, surrender, and steadfastness—qualities central to Linga-upāsanā and personal devotion to Śiva.
The implied takeaway is steadiness in sādhanā: maintain disciplined japa (especially the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and regulated austerity with compassion and balance, so devotion remains firm without falling into harmful excess.
