Nārada and Himālaya: Discourse on Pārvatī’s Signs and Destiny
ब्रह्मोवाच । इत्याकर्ण्य वचस्ते हि सत्यं मत्त्वा च दम्पती । मेना हिमाचलश्चापि दुःखितौ तौ बभूवतुः
brahmovāca | ityākarṇya vacaste hi satyaṃ mattvā ca dampatī | menā himācalaścāpi duḥkhitau tau babhūvatuḥ
Brahmā said: Hearing those words, and taking them to be true, the couple—Menā and Himācala as well—became sorrowful.

It shows how even noble beings react with grief when confronted by an inescapable truth; Shaiva teaching directs that such sorrow is purified by turning the mind toward Śiva-Śakti and trusting the divine order (Pati) that governs all events.
The verse sets an emotional context where devotees face distress; in the Shiva Purana, such moments are resolved through refuge in Saguna Śiva—often symbolized by the Liṅga—where surrender and worship stabilize the mind and reveal Śiva’s compassionate governance.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to steady the heart in sorrow; offering water to a Śiva-liṅga and applying tripuṇḍra (bhasma) are traditional supports for inner composure and devotion.
