पार्वतीजन्मवर्णनम् / Description of Pārvatī’s Birth
दृष्ट्वा प्रियां शुभाङ्गी वै मुमोदातिगिरीश्वरः । गर्भस्थजगदम्बां हि महातेजोवतीन्तदा
dṛṣṭvā priyāṃ śubhāṅgī vai mumodātigirīśvaraḥ | garbhasthajagadambāṃ hi mahātejovatīntadā
Seeing his beloved—auspicious-limbed Pārvatī—Giriśvara (Lord Śiva) rejoiced greatly. For at that time the Mother of the universe, though still within the womb, was radiant with immense spiritual splendor.
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating the Purāṇic account to the sages, describing Śiva’s response)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
The verse highlights the sanctity of darśana (holy vision): Śiva’s joy on seeing Pārvatī signifies how the Divine responds to purity and auspiciousness. It also affirms Śakti as Jagadambā—cosmic motherhood—whose inner tejas (spiritual radiance) precedes outward manifestation, pointing to the Purāṇic truth that grace operates even before events become visible in the world.
Giriśvara’s personal joy and Pārvatī’s auspicious form emphasize Saguna worship—approaching Śiva with attributes, compassion, and relational līlā. In Śaiva practice, the Liṅga is the sacred focus where Śiva-Śakti unity is honored; remembering this verse supports worship that sees the Liṅga not as mere symbol but as the living presence of Pati (Śiva) with Śakti (Pārvatī) inseparable.
A practical takeaway is dhyāna on Śiva-Śakti as radiant auspiciousness: chant the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with bhakti, visualizing Giriśvara and Jagadambā’s tejas. If following Śaiva observance, accompany japa with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and a brief offering at a Śiva-liṅga, cultivating inner purity and reverence.
